Warner Bros’ (WBD) “Furiosa” won this year’s Memorial Day weekend with a $32M debut for the four-day stretch. This was also the worst Memorial Day number 1 opener since “Casper” almost 30 years ago in 1995, according to Comscore. “Furiosa” sports a B+ CinemaScore from audiences.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony‘s (SONY) “The Garfield Movie” placed number 2 with a $31.9M debut for the four-day weekend. Behind it was John Krasinski and Paramount’s (PARA) “IF” with a four-day gross of $21M for a domestic tally of $63.6M. 20th Century and Disney (DIS) “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” placed number 4 with another $17.2M as it approaches the $300M mark in worldwide ticket sales. Rounding out the top five, Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “The Fall Guy” grossed an estimated $7.7M for the four days.
